Lasting Liberty in the Sunshine State

Florida did not become living proof of the wisdom of limited government overnight; it took the patient application of hard truths, learned over decades, to create the conditions for flourishing that Floridians enjoy today.

Former Governor Jeb Bush joined National Review’s seminar in Miami on Friday to share the lessons he learned while setting Florida up for success. Taking office in 1999, Bush rejected the tax-and-spend, big government agenda that had taken root in so many other states, choosing instead to prioritize fiscal responsibility and individual liberty in all he did.

During his sit-down with Jim Geraghty at the Ritz Carlton on Friday, Bush explained how the decisions he made as governor, which were rooted in the timeless principles that National Review has promoted for decades, set Florida on a course for enduring economic vitality.

Bush was joined in extolling the virtues of individual liberty and limited government by John Yoo, the University of California Berkeley School of Law professor who served in President George W. Bush's Department of Justice; Daniel Hannan, member of the U.K. House of Lords; César Grajales of the Red Latina Network Foundation; Timothy Sandefur of the Goldwater Institute; and a collection of your favorite National Review writers and editors.
