Mamdani's Mishaps

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is running into the cold, hard facts of life as his collectivist plans for the Big Apple hit financial roadblocks. On today's edition of The Editors, Dan Foster says he's "a little bit cheered by . . . how reality has forced [Mamdani] immediately to scale back his plans."

"I joked with my wife when he got elected," says Dan, "that in a way now . . . I'm kind of happy -- it's not an original point -- he was elected, because people need to relearn the failures of collectivism and of socialism every so often, and they need to be faced with the consequences of their postures."

Dan believes "we're probably on a trajectory with Mamdani where he's going to be like another de Blasio figure where he probably will get reelected . . . because he can be a kind of mediocre crappy mayor whose most ambitious plans are immediately hemmed in by reality."

"He's just going to shift full time into these rhetorical and symbolic battles where he's just affirming what the great and the good progressives already think. But his capacity to do a ton of structural damage to the city might be hemmed in just by fiscal reality."
