A friend down in Georgia was telling me earlier today that Rudy is raising something like $350,000 in three events there today. That’s one day in one state. Is there any way that Thompson is going to come anywhere close to that kind of fundraising pace? With 18 days to go until the end of the third fundraising quarter, it seems likely Thompson is going to be badly outpaced by Giuliani and Romney. Money and organization aren’t everything in presidential politics, but they matter a great deal, which is why–despite whatever the polls say on a given day–you still have to put Giuliani and Romney in the upper top tier, Thompson in the middling top tier, and McCain in the extreme lower top tier.
